Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment each in the Toshakhana 2 corruption case by a court on Saturday, according to reports.
The judgment was delivered by Special Court Judge Shahrukh Arjumand inside the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where the proceedings were held under tight security arrangements.
The Toshakhana 2 case is about allegations of fraud related to state gifts received by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi from the Saudi government in 2021. Under Pakistan’s Toshakhana rules, officials are required to declare gifts received during official engagements.
According to the prosecution, the couple misappropriated gifts meant to be deposited or properly declared under these rules.

The case specifically involves an expensive Bulgari jewellery set gifted to Imran Khan by the Saudi crown prince during an official visit in May 2021.
Prosecutors told the court that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder retained the jewellery, valued at approximately Rs80 million, after paying only Rs2.9 million.
Imran Khan was handed a cumulative sentence of 17 years in prison. The court awarded him-
10 years of rigorous imprisonment under Sections 34 (common intention) and 409 (criminal breach of trust) of the Pakistan Penal Code
Seven years of imprisonment under Section 5(2) (criminal misconduct by public servants) of the Prevention of Corruption Act
Bushra Bibi received an identical 17-year sentence under the same legal provisions.
Following the verdict, lawyers representing Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi indicated that they would challenge the decision before the high court.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf reacted sharply to the ruling. In a post on X, the party claimed that Imran Khan’s family members were barred from entering the jail during the proceedings.
Describing the process as illegitimate, the PTI said a “kangaroo court announced the verdict of the Toshakhana 2 case”.
“A closed-door jail trial is neither free nor fair; it is in fact a military trial,” the party alleged.
