The US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said that both India and Pakistan are US partners with different points of emphasis at his daily news conference on Monday. The response came after visiting External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made remarks on the US providing the F-16 package to Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meet.
EAM Jaishankar in a counter-argument to the US said, “everybody knows where and against whom F-16 fighter jets are used, you are not fooling anybody by saying these things,” when the US said that the F-16 sustenance package is to fight terrorism.
Dr Jaishankar while questioning the US’ move on providing assistance to Pakistan said, “Very honestly, it’s a relationship that has neither ended up serving Pakistan well nor serving American interests. So, it’s really for the US today to reflect on what the merits are of this relationship (US-Pakistan ties) and what they get by it.”
Price in a statement said, “We look to both as partners because we do have in many cases shared values. We do have in many cases shared interests. And the relationship we have with India stands on its own. The relationship we have with Pakistan stands on its own.”
“We want to do everything we can to see it that these neighbours have relations with one another that are as constructive as can be possible. So that’s another point of emphasis,” added Ned Price.
