In West Bengal’s Malda district close to the India-Bangladesh International Border (IB), the Border Security Force (BSF) seized mobile phones valued at Rs 39,29,000, the forces said on Saturday.
Late on Friday night, South Bengal Frontier Rangers from the BSF’s 70 Battalion, stationed at Border Out Post Sukhdevpur, seized 359 cell phones on the international border (IB).
According to BSF “A personnel of Border Out Post Sukhdevpur saw roughly 10 to 12 suspected smugglers coming towards fence with bundles when the force came there.”
The seizure was based on precise information obtained from BSF intelligence sources, BSF claimed.
“However, as the soldiers approached, the smugglers fled using the cover of night and woods. A special search operation was then conducted by the jawans, and eight bags were found during the search in a hole of dirt close to fence “BSF said.
BSF further went on to say “Mobile phones from different manufacturers were discovered when the retrieved bags were opened. The confiscated mobile phones have an approximate value of Rs 39,29,000 in India.”
The identities of several Indian smugglers who were involved in this smuggling have surfaced, according to BSF information.
Baishnabnagar Police Station has received a FIR against every smuggler, and the confiscated cell phones have also been given to the relevant Police Station for further legal action.
BSF is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border, according to the commanding officer of the 70 Battalion, and as a result, those who engage in such activities are having a difficult time and some of them are being apprehended, who are also being punished in accordance with the law.
