Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren won a confidence motion in the Assembly on Monday, despite opposition from the BJP, ally AJSU Party, and two independent pandemoniums created by the Opposition BJP.
The ruling coalition’s motion was approved by 48 votes in the 81-member House. The BJP, its ally the AJSU Party, and two independents boycotted the vote.
Earlier, he addressed the House and asked for a vote of confidence in the special one-day session, as uncertainty about his political future and the ruling coalition persisted.
Soren stated that obstacles are being presented to the state government and that the onus of poaching Congress MLAs who were caught in Bengal with large sums of money falls on Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“Three of our legislators are in Bengal.” Poaching (of MLAs) in Bengal is the responsibility of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. They refuse to cooperate with police investigating this in those states.” Soren
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief arrived in the House with a large delegation of MLAs from the ruling coalition of the JMM, Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra took a swipe at the BJP “he doesn’t even succeed in making me sit down in Lok Sabha let alone bring down an elected government!”
The legislators flew back to Ranchi a day ago after spending days at a resort in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur amid alleged fears of the Opposition BJP luring them to the other side. Soren had met the legislators at the circuit house last night, where they had spent the night.
The Jharkhand political crisis arose after the BJP filed a petition seeking Soren’s disqualification from the Assembly in an office of profit case. The BJP has accused Soren of granting himself a mining lease while holding the state Mining portfolio in 2021.
In February of this year, the BJP wrote to Governor Ramesh Bais, requesting that Soren be removed from the House under Section 9(A) of the Representation of People’s Act.
The Election Commission has submitted its decision to the governor in this regard, but it has yet to be made public.
