The family of BJP politician Sonali Phogat will approach the Goa High Court for a CBI investigation into the death case after expressing dissatisfaction with the Goa Police’s investigation.

This comes after a nearly four-day-long investigation by the Goa Police into the case in Hisar, Haryana, during which it also gathered significant evidence.

In connection with the issue, Sonali Phogat’s family met with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and urged that the CBI look into the matter. The CBI inquiry was promised by the chief minister. However, the family has chosen to move to the Goa High Court with their petition after becoming unsatisfied with the continuing probe.

Sonali Phogat’s nephew Vikas Singh, who is also a lawyer in his family, told media that they have written to Chief Justice of India UU Lalit to request a CBI investigation and that, if they are not satisfied with the response from the top court, they will file a writ petition with the Goa High Court by Friday.

“We have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India for a CBI inquiry, we are also waiting for the answer whatever comes from the Supreme Court. If we are not satisfied with that, will go to Goa High Court and file the writ petition by Friday,” he said.

“Goa Police is not supporting us, I think political influence is also behind this, so now we will move Goa High Court,” Vikas added.

The nephew claimed they had no trust in the police inquiry and expressed their dissatisfaction with the ongoing investigation by the Goa Police.

“Sonali Phogat was taken to Goa under the conspiracy and attempt to murder. She has been brutally murdered. She was forcibly given drugs that you can clearly see in the CCTV video. We have no faith in the Goa Police. They are not doing a proper investigation. I think Goa Police is also under pressure from the government, somewhere. Because if it had to investigate, it should have brought Sudhir Sangwan with him to Haryana so that it would be able to spot something and the investigation would have been done well. Without him what are they investigating?” he said.

Yashodhara Phogat, Sonali Phogat’s daughter, had earlier on August 30 asked a CBI investigation into her mother’s suspected murder and said the family was dissatisfied with the Goa Police investigation.

She said that Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, had promised that the case will be investigated by the CBI.
