A plaintiff in the Varanasi Gyanvapi case from 1991 received death threats, prompting the filing of a case on Saturday.
According to a media source, Harihar Pandey, 60, one of the three plaintiffs in the 1991 case pertaining to ‘Lord Vishweshwar Nath Swayambhu Jyotirlinga,’ received a death threat from an unknown international caller on August 24, 2022. According to the police report, at around 8 a.m., some people threatened to kill him and his family.
Following the phone call, Pandey, a Varanasi resident, received photos of the decapitation on the social media platform WhatsApp. Those messages, however, were later deleted.
The number is linked to Pakistan, according to the police. Because of the threat to Pandey and his family, police protection was provided to him after the case was filed.
Notably, this is not Harihar Pandey’s first death threat. Previously, on April 8, 2021, he received threats in the same case.
1991 Gyanvapi Case –
As plaintiffs, Pandit Somnath Vyas, Ramrang Sharma, and Harihar Pandey filed a case in civil court in 1991 on behalf of the ancient idol Swayambhu Jyotirlinga Lord Visheshwarnath.
Pandit Somnath Vyas and Ramrang Sharma, the plaintiffs, died a few years after the case was filed in court. Harihar Pandey is the only remaining representative in this case.
Meanwhile, threats were sent to Civil Judge Senior Division Ravi Kumar Diwakar via letter. In the same case, the Hindu side’s advocate, Dr Sohan Lal Arya, received death threats.
