Jammu tunnel collapse: 3 rescued, 8 workers feared trapped

After the collapse, a joint rescue operation was launched by the police and the army. The collapsed portion is estimated to be on the front side and is about 30 to 40 meters inside the tunnel.

A part of an under-construction tunnel collapsed at Khooni Nala, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the Makerkote area of Ramban on Thursday night. The un-constructed tunnel collapsed during an audit.

After the collapse, a joint rescue operation was launched by the police and the army. The collapsed portion is estimated to be on the front side and is about 30 to 40 meters inside the tunnel.

Ramban Deputy Commissioner Massaratul Islam spoke to the media and said that a rescue operation is underway and about 6-7 people are feared trapped under the tunnel.

Sharing an update on the incident, Union minister Dr. Jitendra Singh tweeted this morning that the incident is unfortunate and he is in constant touch with DC Sh Mussrat Islam. Nearly 10 labour workers are trapped under the debris. Another 2 have been rescued and hospitalised with injuries. Rescue operations going on in full swing. Civil administration and Police authorities are monitoring the situation.
