Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Wednesday that a government agency should conduct an investigation into the shooting incident in the Mukroh region along the Assam-Meghalaya border that killed six people.
“I also discussed the situation with the Assam Chief Minister. We demand that a central agency conduct an investigation. The event should be investigated by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Assam administration has also promised to cooperate and would request the same from the Government of India “Sangma said.
Furthermore, he went to Mukroh village and spoke with the families of those killed in the border fire between Assam and Meghalaya.
He added “I’ve come to see that correct action is performed. Such injustice will not occur in the future. Our first focus is the border problem. I spoke with Assam CM about it. The event would be investigated by central authorities, and Assam government has consented to it.”
Earlier on Tuesday, at least six persons died in a shooting incident that occurred following a dispute between a mob and an Assam police and forest guard detachment. Assam Forest Guard was among those who died.
Chief Minister also gave ex gratia payments of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of state’s five deceased.
