Outrage over Bilawal Bhutto's remark on PM Modi: 10 Points

In a ‘shameful’ statement about the Indian PM on Thursday evening, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, son of former Pakistan Prime Minister late Benazir Bhutto and now a want tobe politician, stated, “Osama bin Laden is gone, but the murderer of Gujarat remains, and he is the Prime Minister of India.”

According to a statement issued by the BJP on Friday, protests would be place in every state capitals throughout the nation, and BJP ‘karyakartas’ will burn the effigy of Pakistan and the Pakistani Foreign Minister.

Protests by the BJP in India against Pakistan’s foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari: 10 points

1. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the party’s youth wing, demonstrated in Jammu on Saturday against Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They also set fire to the Pakistani minister’s effigy.
2. On Friday, BJP activists protested outside Pakistan’s high commission in Delhi over foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s “very humiliating and disrespectful” statement on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the BJP, while India’s foreign policy is praised across the world, Pakistan is receiving criticism from even tiny countries.
3. In a furious statement in the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar lambasted Pakistan for raising the Kashmir issue in the council and lashed out Pakistan for harbouring terrorists such as Osama Bin Laden, branding the country the “epicentre of terrorism.” He also asked Pakistan to improve its image and strive to be a decent neighbour. Bhutto discussed the Kashmir problem during the UN Security Council Open Debate on ‘Maintenance of International Peace and Security: New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism,’ a major event held under India’s 15-nation Council Presidency.

6. India slammed Zardari on Friday for his “uncivilised outburst” towards Prime Minister Modi. Arindam Bagchi, the MEA’s official spokeswoman, stated: “These remarks are unprecedented, even in Pakistan. The wrath of Pakistan’s foreign minister would be better directed at the masterminds of terrorist operations in his own nation, who have made terrorism a part of their official policy. Pakistan must change its thinking or risk being a pariah state.”
7. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur blasted Bilawal Bhutto’s personalattack on PM Modi as “very wicked and disgraceful”. Referring to the surrender of the Pakistan Army to India during the 13-day battle that resulted in the independence of Bangladesh on December 16, 1971, he stated, “The remark of Pakistan’s Foreign Minister is highly wicked and disgusting. On this day, the grief of their loss at the hands of India in 1971 is reflected.”
8. In the midst of the uproar over the matter, the BJP has questioned Congress’ silence and its role as the country’s main opposition party. Priti Gandhi, a BJP official, quoted an old video of PM Modi, then the CM of Gujarat, condemning then-Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif for his statements against Manmohan Singh, the then-Indian PM, in a tweet. “Today, the Congress party opted to keep mute in response to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s accusations criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif referred to our then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as ‘Dehati Aurat,’ PM Modi expressed complete support for the UPA government and criticised him. That is the distinction!!” Gandhi penned a letter.

Amit Malviya, the BJP’s IT department director, remarked on Twitter on Saturday that there is a “striking likeness” between Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Rahul Gandhi. “Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Rahul Gandhi have remarkable similarities. Both are entitled dynasts, churlish and petulant, and use the same language and idioms to criticise PM Modi. What holds them together? BJP MP RajyavardhanSingh Rathore also criticised Pakistan FM Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his’Butcher of Gujarat’ statement against PM Modi. “His family was involved in the promotion of terrorism in Kashmir. These are the ones that created dread. If they behave like terrorists, India would respond appropriately,” he warned.
