Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah embossed on one side of the medal would be replaced with the National emblem of Government of India.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has ordered modification in the police medal by replacing the Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah embossing with the National emblem of the Government of India.

The official order issued by Raj Kumar Goyal, principal secretary, reads that it is hereby ordered that in modification to the Para 4 of Jammu & Kashmir police medal scheme, the Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah embossed on one side of the medal shall be replaced with the National emblem of Government of India.

The order further mentions that the other side inscribed with the J&K state emblem shall be inscribed as ‘Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal For Gallantary’ and Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service’ in case of Gallantry/Meritorious medal, as the case may be.

Tanvir Sadiq, chief spokesperson of J&K National Conference and advisor to the former chief minister of Jammu & Kashmir Omar Abdullah, reacted to the move and tweeted that Sher-e-Kashmir is not just a prefix that you can erase. He added that Sher-e-Kashmir was, is and will always be the only Sher-e-Kashmir.
