During a joint news conference at Hyderabad House, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed hope that the Teesta water-sharing dispute with India will be settled soon.
She emphasised the relations between the two countries, referring to India as Bangladesh’s most significant and closest neighbour.
“The two nations have settled many unresolved issues, and we hope that all outstanding concerns, including the Teesta water-sharing treaty, will be resolved as soon as possible,” she said in a joint statement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Teesta river issue is a major topic of discussion between India and Bangladesh. In 2011, both nations agreed to share surface waters at the Farakka Barrage along their shared border.
Sheikh Hasina praised PM Modi’s leadership, which has helped to propel bilateral ties forward.
“I admire Modi ji’s visionary leadership, which continues to fuel our bilateral relations. Bangladesh’s most significant and closest neighbour is India. The bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh are widely regarded as a model for neighbourhood diplomacy “She stated.
Hasina arrived in India on Monday for a four-day tour. At Hyderabad House, she conducted bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi to enhance bilateral relations.
“Today, Prime Minister Modi and I ended another round of constructive negotiations, the conclusion of which would benefit the peoples of both nations. We met in the spirit of personal friendship and collaboration “She stated.
Sheikh Hasina conveyed her best wishes as India works to fulfil the resolutions stated for Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
“At the new dawn of the Amrit Kaal for the next 25 years,” she stated, praising the Indian government for the gracious welcome.
Seven memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed today by India and Bangladesh.
