Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail to ED Official Ankit Tiwari. The Supreme Court has provided interim bail to Ankit Tiwari, an Enforcement Directorate (ED) official who was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in December 2023 in connection with a bribery case. Justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan issued this relief to Tiwari but placed several conditions, including refraining from influencing witnesses, tampering with evidence, or leaving Tamil Nadu without permission.

Tiwari, who challenged the dismissal of his bail plea by the Madras High Court in a money laundering case, awaits a response from the Tamil Nadu Government to his plea. Additionally, the apex court is addressing the Enforcement Directorate’s request to transfer the investigation into bribery allegations against Tiwari from TN’s DVAC to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The arrest of Tiwari by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in December stemmed from allegations of accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from a doctor in Dindigul district. Authorities claim that Tiwari and his team of ED officers were involved in threatening individuals and receiving bribes under the guise of resolving cases for the Enforcement Directorate.
