At the 6th India Mobile Congress (IMC), held at Pragati Maidan in Delhi on October 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally introduced 5G services in India. High-speed internet with minimal latency is projected to be offered through 5G services, altering the data environment. High data rates, minimal latency, and a highly dependable communications infrastructure will all be offered by 5G services.

Sunil Mittal stated that 8 cities would begin receiving Airtel 5G services today at the opening of the Indian Mobile Congress.

Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, and Bangalore are among the eight cities that will have access to the Airtel 5G network as of October 1.

The full list of locations that would receive the first wave of the Airtel 5G deployment in India was kept a secret by Mittal. The Airtel 5G network would cover the entirety of India by March 2024, according to Bharati Enterprises CEO. Before him, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, unveiled the Jio 5G rollout strategy, which included a deadline of December 2023 for bringing 5G to every town, taluka, and tehsil.

When and how can you get 5G connectivity?

Although Airtel will launch its 5G services in 8 cities today, you might not instantly see the Airtel 5G network signal on your phone. To begin with, you must be close to an Airtel 5G tower; however, the exact location of these towers is yet unknown. Second, an OTA update from the OEM is required for your 5G phone to support Jio and Airtel’s 5G networks. As was already indicated, it will take some time for the Airtel 5G network signal to appear on your phone.

It should be emphasised, though, that Jio customers will not have access to 5G just yet.

The Ministry of Communications had earlier stated, “Over the following several years, 5G would gradually encompass the entire country after being introduced by the prime minister in a few locations. By 2035, India’s total economic benefit from 5G is anticipated to be $450 billion.”

At this year’s AGM 2022 gathering, Reliance Jio provided a schedule for the launch of its 5G service.

Cities that would receive 5G first:

Reliance Jio has promised that the services will launch gradually. Accordingly, the first phase would comprise the rollout of 5G services in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. By Diwali, which takes place between October 22 and October 26, these cities will have 5G services.

When will the rest of India get Reliance Jio 5G?

It was revealed during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2022 that additional Indian cities are most likely to only have 5G services by the following year. It was informed that Jio 5G services will only be made accessible in other cities by December 2023 in order to give a specific date.

Will The National Capital get 5G connectivity at once?

The national capital, along with the other three megalopolis cities, will experience redundancy since only some areas of the city will have access to Jio5G services by Diwali.

For instance, the T3 terminal at Delhi International Airport is now 5G ready and offers a 20-times quicker connection for travellers.

Before the 5G network was formally introduced in India, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) had declared the availability of 5G services at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

In a formal announcement, DIAL stated that the 5G network would soon be available to travellers departing from Delhi Airport Terminal 3. The 5G network will provide internet speeds that are 20 times quicker than the airport’s current Wi-Fi infrastructure, according to the authorities.
