According to official media, an earthquake that struck the Luding County in China’s Sichuan Province on Monday resulted in at least 30 fatalities.
According to local officials, 14 people were murdered in Shimian County, Ya’an City, while seven people were slain in Luding County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Media reports states that after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake rattled Luding county, Chinese President Xi Jinping demanded all-out rescue operations to prioritise preserving lives and limiting losses.
China’s Red Cross Society has launched a Level-III emergency response, and the first shipment of relief supplies includes 300 folding beds, 2,200 comfort packages, 320 tents, and 1,200 quilts.
In order to assist with the relief and rescue efforts, the Red Cross has also dispatched a working group.
The earthquake’s second-highest degree of emergency response has been initiated in Sichuan Province, and additional rescue personnel are heading to the epicentre.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake shook Luding County at 12:52 PM Monday (Beijing Time) (CENC).
According to the CENC, the epicentre was being watched at a depth of 16 kilometres and was located at 29.59 degrees north latitude and 102.08 degrees east longitude.
There are various communities within a 5-km radius of the epicentre and it is located 39 kilometres from Luding, the county seat. Despite being 226 kilometres from the epicentre, Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, felt the shaking.
