The killing of a Kashmiri Pandit at a government facility in Budgam, which sparked widespread community protests, occurred about three months ago. Since then, more than 5000 Kashmiri Pandit employees have stopped showing up for work out of concern for targeted attacks. They want to stay in Jammu until the situation in the Valley gets better.

Seven civilians were killed in five days in October, including two migrant Hindus, a Sikh, and a Kashmiri Pandit.
Many Kashmiri Pandit families left their homes in the Valley shortly after that.
