Singapore tourism is set to skyrocket after the famous Formula One circus return this week for the 13th running of the Singapore F1 Grand Prix coming September 30. The event will go on till October 2nd and will most likely boost tourism as it signals Singapore’s massive return as a host of outstanding events after the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.
The world’s only street circuit night race was shut down due to Covid-19 and is now making its return where 40 percent of the spectators are said to be foreigners.
Indians make up the second largest group amongst other visitors to Singapore. Singapore has received a total of 2.96 million visitors till August 2022, of which 3,78,490 were from India. With major businesses, entertainment, and athletic events scheduled for the remainder of the year, the surge in visitor arrivals is probably going to continue. One of many is the Formula One Grand Prix.
As the primary government official in charge of the Grand Prix, S Iswaran, Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, is adamant that the Grand Prix strengthens Singapore’s reputation as a global city with a vibrant lifestyle and serves as a focal point for tourists, international events, and business meetings.
In January of this year, Singapore renewed its Grand Prix hosting contract for a further seven years, to 2028.
In a community event earlier this year, Iswaran said, “The benefits overall is for our tourism industry, in particular hospitability, so the hotels benefit, the airline’s industry, but also equally, the F&B and our retail sector as well.” “Overall, I think it’s a positive impact for the broader hospitability and other sectors that are associated with the Formula One event”, he added.
