Nominations for Padma Awards 2024 To Be Accepted Until September 15

It is important to note that government servants, with the exception of doctors and scientists, as well as those employed by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), are not eligible for Padma Awards.

The central government issued a reminder to citizens on Wednesday, stating that nominations or recommendations for the Padma Awards 2024, which will be announced on Republic Day 2024, are being accepted until September 15. Nominations for these prestigious awards can be submitted through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal at https://awards.gov.in, which has been receiving nominations online since May 1.

Individuals submitting nominations or recommendations are required to provide a citation of up to 800 words, clearly highlighting the distinguished and exceptional achievements or service of the recommended individual within their respective fields.

The Padma Awards, consisting of the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, are among the highest civilian honors in India. Instituted in 1954, these awards are traditionally announced on the eve of Republic Day each year. They aim to recognize exceptional achievements or service in various fields and disciplines, including but not limited to Art, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade, and Industry.

It is important to note that government servants, with the exception of doctors and scientists, as well as those employed by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), are not eligible for Padma Awards.

The Ministry of Home Affairs emphasized that all citizens are encouraged to make nominations or recommendations, including self-nominations. The ministry also urged concerted efforts to identify talented individuals whose excellence and achievements deserve recognition, particularly among women, disadvantaged sections of society, Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), persons with disabilities (divyang), and others who are engaged in selfless service to society.
