Bihar Train Derailment: Ashwini Choubey Conducts Inspection; Rescue Operation Underway

The North-East Express train derailment in Buxar in Bihar, resulted in four fatalities and 70 injuries, prompting extensive restoration work on the affected railway track.

Union Minister of State Ashwini Choubey undertook a comprehensive assessment of the ongoing restoration and rescue operations in the aftermath of the tragic derailment of 21 coaches of the Kamakhya-bound North-East Express in Bihar, a day ago.

Expressing his sentiments, the minister Choubey acknowledged the daunting scene and extended gratitude to the local community for their invaluable assistance in the rescue efforts. He remarked, “It is a terrifying scene. I thank the locals for their support in the rescue operation… Thousands of people left all their work and rushed here to help…”

He mobilized relevant authorities upon receiving the news, ensuring that all departments, from the railway ministry to the Prime Minister’s Office, were informed. Simultaneously, rescue operations were initiated, and hospitals were alerted to be prepared to receive and treat the injured passengers.

The Minister reported that the injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at AIIMS Patna and are out of immediate danger. He emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring operations and assured that a comprehensive inquiry into the incident has already commenced.

Following the derailment of the North-East Express train at Raghunathpur station in Buxar, Bihar, at approximately 9:30 PM the previous evening, extensive restoration work is underway on the affected railway track. Tragically, the accident resulted in four fatalities and left around 70 people injured.

The North East Express, en route from Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi to Kamakhya in Assam, was involved in the mishap near Raghunathpur station within the Danapur division of the East Central Railway.

Tarun Prakash, General Manager of East Central Railways (ECR), informed ANI that authorities are diligently investigating the root causes of the incident.

Meanwhile, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the successful completion of evacuation and rescue operations. He further indicated that all coaches have been thoroughly inspected and passengers will soon be transferred to a special train for their onward journey.

Previously, the Assam Chief Minister’s Office revealed that the government is closely monitoring the unfortunate derailment and maintaining close communication with district authorities in Buxar and other relevant agencies.
