J&K: Police Seizes 240 Kgs Poppy, 2 Arrested

The police promptly apprehended the two suspected drug peddlers at the scene and impounded the vehicle.

According to officials, a significant seizure of 240 kilograms of poppy straw was made by the Jammu and Kashmir Police at the Jakhani Check Naka along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur on Sunday.

Elaborating on the operation, the police reported that acting on specific information, the Udhampur Police team conducted an impromptu inspection at the Jakhani Check Naka, where they halted a vehicle transporting apples. Upon thorough examination, the authorities uncovered 240 kilograms of Bhukki (Poppy Straw) stashed beneath the vehicle’s specialized compartment.

The police promptly apprehended the two suspected drug peddlers at the scene and impounded the vehicle. Sham Singh Naib, Tehsildar of Udhampur, confirmed the incident, stating that the interception at Jakhani Check Naka resulted in the discovery of a significant quantity of Poppy Straw. Furthermore, he informed that two individuals were taken into custody, and a case had been filed.

The authorities have initiated further investigations into the matter.
