India and Bangladesh signed seven Memorandum of understanding (MoUs) on Tuesday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina in Delhi.
India-Bangladesh delegation-level talks led by PM Modi and Hasina were commenced at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
“India-Bangladesh delegation level talks led by PM @narendramodi & PM Sheikh Hasina commence. On the agenda are issues related to connectivity, energy, water resources, trade & investment, border management & security, development partnership and regional & multilateral matters,” the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi tweeted.
Hasina had previously placed a wreath and paid respect to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. She was given a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Soon after being welcomed, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated that she enjoys visiting India and emphasised the importance of connections between New Delhi and Dhaka.
“India is a friend of ours. It’s always a joy to come here, especially because we constantly remember India’s help during our liberation battle. We have a pleasant relationship and work well together “Bangladesh’s Prime Minister said today.
As Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina arrived at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted her. PM Modi and Hasina exchanged handshakes. S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, was also present.
Rashtrapati Bhavan was adorned for Hasina’s arrival. Today, she will meet with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Hasina arrived in India for a four-day visit yesterday, since Bangladesh is an important partner under India’s “Neighborhood First” strategy.
The Bangladesh Prime Minister visited External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shortly after landing in New Delhi on Monday and addressed bilateral concerns. She also went to Nizamuddin Aulia Dargah, a popular pilgrimage tourist destination in Delhi.
Darshana Jardosh, Minister of State for Textiles and Railways, greeted PM Hasina upon her arrival in New Delhi on Monday.
Hasina’s visit is critical, as it will deepen India and Bangladesh’s complex relationship.
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister was also photographed with the dancers who greeted her. Priorities include improving defence cooperation, increasing regional connectivity projects, and promoting stability in South Asia.
This is her first visit since the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2021. Last year also commemorated the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence and the 100th birthday of the country’s founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
PM Modi is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in 2021. Maitri Diwas festivities were placed in 20 capitals worldwide, including Delhi and Dhaka.
