David Warner Becomes Eighth Australian to Completes 8,000 Test Runs

Australian veteran opener David Warner reached the milestone of 8,000 runs in Test cricket, becoming the eighth player of his country to do so.

During Australia’s second Test against South Africa at the storied Melbourne Cricket Ground, which also happened to be his 100th Test match, the great batter reached this milestone. Warner is undefeated at 120 off 174 balls as of this writing; his innings thus far have included nine fours.

Warner’s 25th Test century put an end to an almost three-year-long century drought. He has previously scored a century in a lengthier format against New Zealand on January 3, 2020.

In 183 innings across 100 Tests, the elegant southpaw has scored 8,042 Test runs at an average of 46.21. In the lengthier format, he has amassed 25 hundred as well as 34 half-centuries. His personal best mark in this sport’s format is 335*.

Notably, he ranks as Australia’s seventh-highest run-scorer in Test cricket.

The most runs for Australia in a Test match have been achieved by the legendary batsman and former captain Ricky Ponting. Ponting scored 13,378 runs at an average of 51.85 in 168 games and 287 innings. His top score was 257, and he recorded 41 centuries and 62 half-centuries.

Allan Border (11,174 runs), Steve Waugh (10,927 runs), Michael Clarke (8,643 runs), Matthew Hayden (8,625 runs), Steve Smith (8,503 runs), and Warner are some of the players who have scored more runs than this hitter.

The first innings of the game is now being played, and Australia has a slim advantage over South Africa.

Earlier, South Africa, whom Australia had ordered to bat first, was dismissed for 189 runs. Kyle Verreynne, a wicketkeeper-batsman, and Marco Jansen, a batsman, put up a 112-run partnership to stabilise the Proteas’ innings after they were down at 67/5.

The best bowler for the Australians was all-arounder Cameron Green, who finished with a 5/27. It’s his first five-wicket haul in a Test match. While Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon each grabbed one wicket, Mitchell Starc claimed two wickets.
