Solomon Islands: 7.3 magnitude earthquake hits Malango

The United States Geological Survey reported a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hits the south-west of Malango in the Solomon Islands on Tuesday. An earthquake occurred at a depth of 15.0 kilometres on November 22, at 02:03:07 (UTC).

The centre of the earthquake was located at 9.790 degrees south longitude and 159.601 degrees east longitude. However, no casualties have been recorded yet. The calamity came one day after a 5.6 magnitude earthquake shook Indonesia’s largest island of Java.

According to media reports, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil stated that more than 160 people were killed after an earthquake shook Java in Indonesia. Rescuers were looking for people trapped beneath the rubble.

As per Kamil, majority of those slain were minors. Kamil further stated that the death toll is expected to rise higher.

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck the Cianjur region of West Java on November 21 at 1:21 p.m. local time. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
