Heavy rains continue to lash several districts of Tamil Nadu. The state government has declared a holiday for educational institutions in several districts owing to incessant rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the four districts of Tiruvallur, Ranipet and Kancheepuram and a forecast of very heavy rainfall in Chennai and several other districts in the coming days.
An orange alert has been issued for Chennai, Vellore, Tiruppattar, Thiruvannamalai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Karaikal.
Districts such as Sivaganga, Theni, Karur, Pudukkottai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Karaikal and Dindugal have declared holidays for schools while Madurai District Collector has declared a holiday for both schools and colleges amid heavy rainfall. Holidays for only primary and middle schools have been declared in Tirupatur district.
Monsoon mayhem returns as severe waterlogging is being reported across several districts in Tamil Nadu. Rangarajapuram subway and Madhavaram subway have been shut down due to the same. The typewriting exams that were scheduled to be held on November 12-13 have been postponed due to heavy rains. The exams will be held on November 19 and 20.
According to the latest inputs from IMD, fairly widespread to widespread rains, along with isolated heavy to very heavy showers (64.5 mm-204 mm) can be expected across Tamil Nadu from November 11-13. Furthermore, isolated extremely heavy downpours (204 mm) are expected to drench north-coastal Tamil Nadu and north Tamil Nadu.
Owing to a well-marked low-pressure area located over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of northeast Sri Lanka, along with its associated cyclonic circulation, intense showers can be expected across the south-Indian state. IMD predictions also indicate that the low pressure is very likely to move northwestwards (towards Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts) till November 12 (Saturday), and then move west-northwestwards (across Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and Kerala) over the weekend.
