Champai Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party, is scheduled to take the oath of office as Jharkhand’s next chief minister today, which is a momentous development.

The oath-taking ceremony held around 12.15 pm at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi.

This came after Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan, in a late-night move, invited JMM leader Hemant Soren’s loyalist to Raj Bhavan on Thursday in order to form the government. Within the next ten days, Champai Soren will also be required to prove his majority in a floor exam.

The invitation was sent out just hours after Champai Soren, who has been leading the state in politics since Hemant Soren’s resignation on Wednesday, pleaded with the governor to recognize his right to form the government as soon as possible. The alliance led by JMM was transporting its MLAs from Ranchi to Telangana by plane while there was confusion over the formation of the government. But because of poor visibility, the chartered planes that were hired for this had to be canceled at the last minute.

Hemant Soren resigned as chief minister following his arrest by the ED on Wednesday in relation to a suspected money laundering case. Champai Soren will take over as chief minister. His judicial custody has been extended until February 2. A “huge racket of illegal change of ownership of land by the mafia” in Jharkhand is connected to the case against Hemant Soren.

I strongly object to the unwarranted apprehension of a prominent tribal leader, Shri Hemant Soren. A deliberate plot to topple a government that was elected by the people is evident in the vengeful action taken by central agencies supported by the BJP. I am committed to supporting him in his fight to preserve democracy during these difficult times since he is a close friend of mine.

As the governor continued to postpone inviting Champai Soren to lead the new administration, the two parties organized a trip for their MLAs to Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, which is ruled by the Congress party. In order to stop the opposition BJP from “poaching” the MLAs, this action was taken. However, because of the fog, their charter flight from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, was unable to take off.
