Before Prince Harry’s anticipated arrival in the United Kingdom for the Invictus Games, a Royal family author has suggested that the Duke of Sussex will have ” some explaining” to do upon his arrival in London.
There are uncertainties regarding whether Meghan Markle will accompany Prince Harry, as news of King Charles and Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis has already impacted the Royal family. Scheduled for May 8, Prince Harry is slated to deliver a speech during a special service at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Royal biographer Tom Quinn suggests that Harry is likely to make his way back to the UK as missing the ceremony could underscore his strained relationship with Prince William. Speaking to The Mirror, Quinn stated that Harry will “definitely return” to the UK unless there is a significant unforeseen event.
The rift between Harry and William became apparent following the former’s comments about the family in his memoir and Netflix series. Although Harry visited the UK in February after King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was disclosed, it remains unclear whether the Sussexes were informed of Kate’s health issues before her announcement.
Harry’s absence from the Games would indicate that “he doesn’t want the awkwardness” of having to meet Prince William or “having to choose not meet him”, Quinn stated.
He further commented that it “would be worse “for Harry to remain absent from the UK than to find a resolution, such as arranging a brief encounter with William or finding a reason to return to the United States to be with his children.
Quinn emphasized that even if Harry provides explanations for his inability to meet his brother and father King Charles, such excuses would not deceive anyone.
During their visit to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, there is a chance that Harry and Kate may cross paths with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Quinn conveyed to The Mirror that Prince William and Kate have reservations about whether Meghan will accompany Harry on his trip, as it could potentially strain relations within the Royal family. He stressed that thorough preparation could help mitigate the inevitable awkwardness.
Should Harry sidestep encounters with his brother and Kate, the Royal author remarked, “There will be more damaging speculation than if they try to patch things up just enough to cope with a short meeting.”
While Kate and William aim to spend peaceful time with their children amidst Kate’s cancer diagnosis, Harry’s visit appears poised to bring additional tension and drama.
