Thai Prime Minister expresses disappointment over the deal

Thavisin highlights potential benefits of Swift performing in Thailand

Thailand’s Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, revealed that Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour will not be making its way to Thailand due to an exclusive deal reportedly struck with Singapore, restricting the singer from performing elsewhere in the ASEAN region.

The announcement came during a business event in Bangkok, where Thavisin expressed disappointment over the situation, stating that event promoter AEG had informed him of the agreement. He mentioned that the Singaporean government had offered a significant sum, estimated between USD 2 million to USD 3 million per show, in exchange for exclusivity rights.

Thavisin emphasized the potential benefits of hosting Swift’s concert in Thailand, citing the potential to attract more sponsors and tourists to the country. He noted that organizing the event in Thailand would be more cost-effective compared to Singapore.

Despite efforts to bring more A-list artists to Thailand later in the year, Thavisin acknowledged the challenges of arranging a concert of such scale. He mentioned that the Thai government is exploring alternatives to compensate for the absence of Swift’s tour.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, her sixth concert tour spanning all ten of her albums, has garnered significant attention. With 151 shows across five continents, it is hailed as the highest-grossing tour of all time, surpassing $1 billion in revenue.
