A horrific transport accident in Thailand killed at least eight people and injured more than 25 others after a cargo train crashed into a public bus near a railway crossing in Bangkok on Saturday. The collision triggered a massive fire that quickly engulfed the bus and several nearby vehicles, creating panic and chaos at the scene. Rescue officials and police said the accident happened in the late afternoon near an airport rail link station in the central part of the Thai capital. Videos shared online showed flames rising from the destroyed bus as emergency teams rushed to save passengers trapped inside.

Rescue teams rushed to pull survivors from burning wreckage after crash

Reports say that firefighters, police and rescue workers were immediately dispatched after the collision in Thailand as flames spread across the bus and nearby vehicles. Officials said the crash involved the train, the public bus, motorcycles and several cars waiting near the crossing.

Rescue teams worked frantically to remove injured passengers from the wreckage while firefighters sprayed water hoses to stop the fire from spreading further. Emergency workers later confirmed that the blaze had been brought under control, though crews continued cooling operations, gas venting and searches for additional victims inside the burnt vehicles.

All victims found inside bus as authorities begin investigation

According to the Erawan Medical Center in Thailand, at least eight people lost their lives while more than 20 others suffered injuries in the crash. As per reports, Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasakulkiat said that at the site that all the bodies recovered were found inside the bus.

He also said authorities still do not know the exact number of passengers travelling on the bus at the time of the accident. When asked about reports suggesting the bus may have stopped on the railway tracks or that crossing barriers failed to lower properly, Siripong said the matter would need a full investigation before conclusions could be drawn.

Viral videos captured horrifying moment train slammed into orange bus

Videos circulating widely on social media showed several vehicles stopped at the railway crossing moments before the crash in Thailand. Seconds later, a cargo train rammed into a large orange public bus, dragging multiple nearby vehicles along the tracks before the bus burst into flames.

The force of the impact also threw motorcycles and riders onto the road. Later videos showed rescue personnel entering the completely charred bus after the flames were finally controlled. According to Thai publication Khaosod English, the freight train was travelling from Chachoengsao province toward Bangkok’s Bang Sue district. The bus reportedly operated between Bangkok’s eastern suburbs and the city centre.

Another major rail disaster revives safety concerns across Thailand

The latest tragedy comes only months after another deadly rail-related accident in Thailand in January, when a construction crane collapsed onto a passenger train northeast of Bangkok. That incident killed at least 28 people and injured more than 60 others.

Following the earlier disaster, Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn had ordered a full investigation into railway safety measures. Saturday’s collision is now expected to put even more pressure on authorities in Thailand to improve railway crossing systems and public transport safety standards.
