IFFI: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting accepted entries for ’75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ on Monday, with the goal of identifying, encouraging, and nurturing young creative talents from diverse fields of filmmaking.
The project, which is in its second year, is an annual forum at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which is held in Goa. It was released in 2021 as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate India’s 75th year of independence.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the number of filmmakers recognised is symbolic of the years of Indian independence, and it is hoped that in the coming years, the number of youths participating in Creative Minds will increase by one to keep the spirit of the endeavour alive.
“The 75 creative minds will be shortlisted and selected by a renowned jury under the auspices of the National Film Development Corporation ahead of the 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India,” it stated.
During the IFFI, Goa, the programme aims to discover young aspiring filmmakers and give them with a platform to engage and learn from national and international filmmakers.
The event is believed to be unique, with a significant gathering of young creative minds chosen through a competition at any top film festival throughout the world.
Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Youth Affairs, and Sports, conceptualised it in 2021 to create a platform to link young talent with industry leaders from the media and entertainment sectors.
The selected ’75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ will also attend seminars and sessions produced by film masters throughout the festival event in Goa.
In addition, each team will compete in a group competition to create a short film in 53 hours. The topics of the short film will be inspired by the spirit of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, where teams will be able to express their vision of India@100.
The selected creative talents will subsequently be assigned to one of seven teams in collaboration with Shorts TV, the initiative’s programming partner. The films created by the seven teams will be shown theatrically at IFFI on November 24, followed by an award ceremony to recognise the best film. Everyone who takes part in the competitive challenge will be recognised.
The project is also another step toward making India a global content and post-production centre by finding, fostering, and up-skilling young talent and preparing them for industry connections and readiness.
The effort, according to the government, is fostering as well as establishing an ecosystem of young filmmakers, allowing them to network and cooperate from the start.
The Ministry also intends to implement certain productive interventions so that participants may take advantage of this chance for gainful employment in the Media and Entertainment sector.
