Avatar: The Way of Water, directed by James Cameron, experienced a drop in attendance on Monday after a successful weekend. Early trend indications indicate that the movie was made between Rs 16 and Rs 18 crore on day 4. Even though the movie is dominating the Indian box office by itself, the weekday numbers are predicted to be significantly lower. The science fiction epic will be up against Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus, starring Ranveer Singh, on Friday.
Avatar: The Way of Water experienced a 60 percent decline on Monday, according to KoiMoi. However, compared to some of the biggest Bollywood films of the year, the movie did remarkably well over the weekend.
Avatar 2 will easily surpass the Rs 200 crore mark this week after crossing the Rs 160 crore threshold in its first weekend of release.
With Rs 41 crore on Friday, Avatar outperformed other Bollywood films that were released this year and became the first movie to record such an astounding opening day figure in the post-pandemic era. Even Bollywood box office successes like Drishyam 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 fell short of achieving such amounts.
According to studio projections on Sunday, the 2009 sequel to the movie has already made $134 million from North American cinemas and $300.5 million abroad for a $434.5 million (about Rs 3,598 crore) global premiere.
James Cameron remarked in an interview with Variety on writing Avatar 2: “When I was writing the new films, I was going through it as a father of teens. And I came to the conclusion that your family is your fortress no matter what turmoil you experience. And I wanted to somehow express that through my art because I believed there was a significant gap in contemporary action movies.
He also spoke candidly about the movie’s themes, stating that the environment is still a major issue. “It’s about what I refer to as the conflict between takers and carers. Indigenous peoples are stewards. They are the ones who currently have the ability to restore our connection to a more protective, cooperative, and harmonious understanding of nature. We are going to disappear if we don’t change our mentality. That’s how easy it is, the director declared.
