The legendary British singer-songwriter Sir Elton John has opted to leave Twitter while on his extensive farewell tour, citing “misinformation” as the cause.

John shared the information on Twitter by commenting, “My entire life, I’ve worked to utilise music to unite people. I am nevertheless saddened to see how false information is currently being utilised to polarise our planet.”

Given Twitter’s recent policy change, which would allow disinformation to go unchecked, he said, “I’ve chosen to stop using Twitter.”

The CEO of Twitter Elon Musk and the person who bought the microblogging service, was one among many who responded to the musician.

He noted “You have great music. I hope you return. Do you have any concerns about any particular false information?”

According to local media reports, Twitter has recently been at the heart of a number of issues, most notably the antisemitic tweets sent by Kanye West and Kyrie Irving that were denounced by the ADL, Ari Emanuel, LeBron James, and many others.

Additionally, Twitter said less than two weeks ago that it will no longer enforce a restriction designed to counteract false information about the COVID epidemic.
