JK Rowling Accused Of Intentionally Misgendering Trans Newsreader India Willoughby

Addressing the accusation against Rowling, Northumbria Police issued a statement, saying, “On Monday, March 4, we received a complaint about a post on social media. We are currently awaiting to speak to the complainant further.”

The British police confirmed that they received a complaint in response to a report made by transgender broadcaster India Willoughby against J.K. Rowling for comments the ‘Harry Potter’ author made on social media. Willoughby alleges that Rowling committed a ‘hate crime’ by referring to the broadcaster as ‘him’.

In an interview, India Willoughby stated, “I contacted Northumbria constabulary yesterday … I have reported J.K. Rowling to the police for what she said.” Willoughby alleges that Rowling committed a ‘hate crime’ by intentionally misgendering her.

Rowling has refuted the claim, asserting that holding gender-critical views is not a criminal offense. She mentioned that legal advice suggested a potentially defamatory case against India Willoughby, adding, “Willoughby’s obsessive targeting of me over the past few years may meet the legal threshold for harassment.”
