11 dead in Nasik bus fire accident: PM, Maharashtra CM announce ex-gratia

A bus crash killed 11 people and set a vehicle on fire in Nasik.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed their condolences for the fatalities in the early-morning Saturday tragedy in Nashik city, in which a bus collided with a vehicle and caught fire.

According to the city police in Nashik, Maharashtra, a Mumbai-bound bus caught fire after colliding with a trailer truck this morning, killing at least 11 passengers, including a toddler, and injuring over 20, with the injured being brought to a hospital. Ex gratia for the surviving relatives of the deceased was also announced by Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Shinde.

“I was shocked to discover that a bus fire in Nashik claimed the lives of several individuals. I send my sincere sympathies to the families of those who perished in this catastrophe. I hope the injured people recover quickly, “In a tweet, President Murmu said.

The office of the prime minister tweeted, “Saddened by the bus accident in Nashik. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost a loved one in this accident. May the afflicted person heal as soon as possible. The local government is helping people who are impacted in every way it can.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister also announced that the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) will grant ex-gratia payments of Rs. 2 lakh to the surviving family members of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to accident victims.
