SDMC anti-encroachment drive begins today, AAP leader Mukesh Ahlawat detained

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) carried out an anti-encroachment drive on Gurudwara Road in New Friends Colony on Tuesday

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) carried out an anti-encroachment drive on Gurudwara Road in New Friends Colony on Tuesday, with civic authorities arriving with bulldozers to dismantle unlawful temporary constructions, according to the authority.

This comes a day after the civic body was forced to return to Shaheen without carrying out the activity. Bagh on Monday after villagers and political leaders protested.

Meanwhile, Mukesh Ahlawat, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, was arrested for some time today during a North Delhi Municipal Corporation anti-encroachment sweep in the Mangolpuri region (NDMC). The detention was made to ensure the smooth functioning of the government activity.  

According to SDMC Central Zone Chairman Rajpal Singh, the anti-encroachment campaign has begun in the vicinity of the New Friends Colony.

Earlier on Monday the chairman of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s (SDMC) central zone announced that bulldozers will begin operating in the New Friends Colony tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, residents of Shaheen Bagh in the national capital objected as bulldozers rolled into the area for the SDMC’s anti-encroachment mission.
