Six Years Of Abrogation Of Article 370 LIVE : Govt Meetings Spark Buzz Over J&K Statehood Restoration
Today marks the six year anniversary of trhe abrogation of article 370 initiated by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
This markes a key decisions taken by the Central Government on August 05, 2019.
Amit Shah had announced in the Rajya Sabha the abrogation of Article 370 which was a constitutional provision that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
N Gopalaswami Ayyangar, a member of the Constituent Assembly of India had drafted this article and it was added as a ‘temporary provision’ in 1949.
Now, there are rumours of a significant political change in Jammu and Kashmir, especially after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have met President Droupadi Murmu. Amidst these rumours, i.e.- 6 years after the decision, an application has also been filed that seeks directions to the central government to restore the statehood of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and will be heard by the Supreme Court on August 08, 2025, Friday.
In July 2025, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had made a plea to the Centre for restoring statehood. “We’re not asking for something that is not our due. Statehood is the right, it was promised to the people.”
