Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shaitaan’, which hit screens on March 8, collected an impressive Rs 81.06 crore at the domestic box office in the first week and received rave reviews from fans. It continued its run in its second week, raking in Rs 5.12 crore on Friday (March 15) despite the release of ‘Yodha’. ‘Shaitaan’ witnessed further growth on Saturday (March 16) and netted a commendable Rs 9.12 crore. This took its total collection to Rs 95.84 crore. It is likely to witness further growth today (March 17) as it’s a Sunday.

Shaitaan benefitted from the positive word of mouth and the relatively lukewarm response to ‘Yodha’, which opened in theatres on March 15. The fact that Devgn has earned the goodwill of the audience with well-received thrillers such as ‘Raid’ and ‘Drishyam 2’ also worked in the film’s favour.

‘Shaitaan’, directed by  Vikas Bahl, is a horror-thriller that revolves around the clash between ‘good’ and ‘evil’. The cast includes R Madhavan and Jyothika. ‘Shaitaan’ is a remake of ‘Vash’, a Gujarati film. Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak have produced the Bollywood film.

This is Devgn’s first release after ‘Bholaa’. The actioner, a remake of Karthi’s ‘Kaithi’, hit screens in March and ended up being an ‘average’ grosser. It featured Tabu, Raai Laxmi, and Amala Paul in the lead. Devgn will next be seen in ‘Maidaan’, set to release this Eid. The sports drama features him as Syed Abdul Raheem/ Raheem Saab, one of the pioneers of Indian football. It stars Priyamani, best known for her work on ‘The Family Man’, as the leading lady. Devgn also has ‘Raid 2’ in his kitty.
