The relative of Chhattisgarh minister TS Singh Deo who was discovered dead beside the railroad lines in the district of Bilaspur on Friday has become the subject of a legal investigation, according to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday.

According to the BJP, 42-year-old Veerbhadra Pratap Singh, also known as Sachin Baba, was a suspect in a case involving an assault on Congress lawmaker Brihaspat Singh last year and may have been killed.

In the Bilaspur district, Veerbhadra Pratap Singh’s body was discovered on Friday close to the Belgahna train station. Veerbhadra may have perished after an unintentional fall from the Durg-Ambikapur Express while travelling 350 kilometres from Raipur to Ambikapur, according to the police. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been disclosed by his family.

Veerbhadra, a district panchayat member, was one of those detained by the police last year for the attack on the convoy of Brihaspat Singh, an MLA from the Ramanujganj constituency in north Chhattisgarh who is well-known for being Bhupesh Baghel’s supporter.

After the incident in July 2021, Brihaspat Singh accused Singh Deo, the health minister, of planning the attack on his convoy in Ambikapur, setting off a political avalanche inside the Chhattisgarh Congress.

The state’s health minister, Singh Deo, left the chamber at that point and didn’t come back until Tamradhwaj Sahu, the minister of the interior, categorically denied the accusation. Additionally, Brihaspat Singh had to apologise.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Parul Mathur of Bilaspur stated that although the death was still under investigation, it looked to be an accident.

“The victim was travelling on Friday on the Durg-Ambikapur Express from Raipur to Ambikapur, and at first glance, it appears he fell accidentally off the moving train and died of injuries,” Mathur added.

“Sachin (as he was called), a close relative of minister Singh Deo, was detained concerning the alleged attack on Congress MLA Brihaspat Singh’s convoy last year. We seek a judicial investigation since the accident does not appear to be a regular and maybe a political murder, according to BJP MLA and chief spokesperson Ajay Chandrakar.
