Shashi Tharoor will run for president of the Congress, it has been confirmed after days of rumours.
According to media sources, Shashi Tharoor will run for president of the Congress after Sonia Gandhi endorsed his candidacy during a meeting with her today in which he mentioned his ability to strengthen internal democracy. In addition to Shashi Tharoor, Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, is expected to file his nomination to run for the top position in the Congress on September 26.
Currently, all eyes are on Shashi Tharoor and Ashok Gehlot. Gehlot is still hesitant to step down from state politics and make room for his rival Sachin Pilot. However, some party members believe Gehlot, who has a wealth of administrative expertise, might be a strong candidate to lead the party in the run-up to the 2024 elections. If Rahul Gandhi declines to sign the nomination paperwork, that is.
On whether he has made up his mind, there is still some uncertainty. But there’s a good probability he’s interested. Additionally, it’s about making a statement. The fact that Tharoor and many others like him battled and took a risk would give them political kudos even if they didn’t win the elections.
This brings up a legitimate G-23 candidate. The G-23’s first letter was signed by Tharoor, who has been speaking out in favour of elections ever since. So much so that Tharoor even stated that no family should have the exclusive right to run for office.
However, some G-23 members are angry with Ghulam Nabi Azad because he left the party. “The plan was to support the Congress and argue our case. Those in the party who had questioned us at the CWC, which was summoned to debate the letter, have grown more confident as a result of his departure.
