Three people were detained on Tuesday for reportedly stabbing a young man near Shivamogga’s Gandhi Bazar neighbourhood on August 15.
According to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar, four suspects in the event have been identified, and a complaint has been filed under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code in connection with the knife assault.
Prem Singh, a twenty-year-old Shivamogga resident, was on his way home yesterday when he was stabbed by miscreants near the Gandhi Bazar vegetable market under Doddpet Police Station, Shivamogga Town, police said, adding that the miscreants had left the scene.
The first culprit was apprehended within hours after the occurrence.
“The arrested have been named as Nadeem Rehman and Abdul Rehman, who are suspected of stabbing Prem Singh, who is 20 years old,” police added.
Later, during a search on Tuesday morning, for the remaining accused, inspector Manjunath S. Kuri of the Vinob Nagar police station attempted to apprehend accused Mohammed Jabi alias Charbi, 30, who had assaulted police officials with a knife.
To defend himself and his colleagues, the police subinspector shot Jabi in the leg with a service handgun. The injured accused was taken to Megan Hospital for treatment, and a charge under Sections 353 and 307 of the IPC was filed at the Doddpet police station.
Meanwhile, a curfew has been enforced in sections of Shivamogga district under Section 144. The curfew was imposed when a group of Tipu Sultan supporters allegedly attempted to destroy a Veer Savarkar poster displayed at Ameer Ahmed Circle on Independence Day.
“We have warned them not to go out needlessly, and we have also asked them not to go on bike rides. We’ll also collect their property and bring it to the attention of the District Collector, who will take necessary action against offenders,” “ADGP Alok Kumar stated.
