Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said on Sunday that “incidents happen everywhere” in response to the alleged rape of a minor tribal girl found hanging from a tree in Dumka.

“Incidents continue to occur. They occur everywhere. An incident is not made public. How should this case be viewed? “We have shared our thoughts with you,” the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) told reporters in Hindi.

On Friday, the girl’s body was discovered hanging from a tree near Shri Amra village in Dumka’s Vishwavidyalaya outpost area. On Saturday, one person was arrested. According to police, the victim was a daily wagerer, which is how she met the accused.

Annie Raja, general secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), criticised Soren’s remarks and questioned why he was still in his position.

“This type of atrocity has happened before in Jharkhand. But why is he (Soren) in charge of the government? “I strongly condemn his comments about this incident,” Raja told the media. “Our country has enough laws to prevent such incidents, and as chief minister, he should ensure that the state’s laws are followed in letter and spirit,” Raja added.
