The merger of five JD(U) MLAs with the BJP under the tenth schedule of the Constitution has been welcomed by the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, according to a statement released by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat. These include the letter Kh. Ngursanglur Sanate, Md.; Joykishan Singh. Thangjam Arunkumar, Achab Uddin, and L.M. Khaute.
In the most recent Assembly elections, which were held and the results of which were announced on March 10, the Bharatiya Janata Party won a majority of 32 seats in the state Assembly, which is made up of 60 members.
