The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formed a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the violence in Manipur. The team, headed by a DIG-rank officer, will investigate six cases of violence that have been registered by the state government.

The violence broke out between the Kuki tribals and the Meitei community in Manipur over a month ago. The violence was triggered by a court order that granted scheduled tribe status to the Meiteis. The government imposed a curfew and banned internet services in the state.

The CBI SIT will investigate the circumstances leading to the violence, the role of the people involved, and the extent of damage caused. The team will also look into the allegations of criminal conspiracy and general conspiracy behind the violence.

The CBI has been given a month to submit its report.

Details about the violence:

  • Nearly 100 people have been killed and more than 300 injured in the violence.
  • Over 40,000 people have been displaced from their homes.
  • The violence has caused widespread damage to property.

The violence has been condemned by the government and the people of Manipur. The government has promised to take all necessary steps to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The CBI SIT is expected to play a key role in bringing the perpetrators of the violence to justice. The team is expected to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report that will help the government take further action.
