The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued a circular on Monday declaring a full meat prohibition and animal slaughters in the city on August 31st, Wednesday, in honour of Bengaluru’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
The prohibition will apply to all places within the BBMP’s jurisdiction. Asaduddin Owaisi, the supremo of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticised the Karnataka government’s intention to impose a meat ban in Bengaluru on August 31.
DK Shivakumar, the chairman of the Karnataka Congress, said of the meat ban, “They are involved in frivolous debates.” I’m not sure what the current rules are.”
The Ganesha Chaturthi holiday is commemorated across the country on Wednesday, and the city has outlawed the sale of beef on that day. A BBMP ruling prohibits both the retail selling of meat and the slaughter of animals at slaughterhouses.
“On the one hand, large restaurant chains will be permitted to offer non-vegetarian items, while small business owners, such as butchers, who attempt to make a decent life, will be penalised.” “This is a terrible decision,” he continued.
His comment comes after the Bruhant Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) placed a ban on animal slaughter and the selling of meat on the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi.
The BBMP stated in a circular in Kannada language, “On the occasion of “Ganesha Chaturthi,” animal slaughter and the sale of meat are prohibited.
On the festival of “Ganesha Chaturthi” on Wednesday, August 31, Joint Director (Animal Husbandry) advised that the killing of animals and selling of meat in sales booths under Burhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is strictly forbidden.”
