If Supertech’s twin towers in Noida were an engineering marvel, their demolition would be nothing short of a feat, according to Utkarsh Mehta, whose Edifice Engineering has been tasked with safely bringing the nearly 100-metre tall structures down on August 28.
“We have Rs 100 crore insurance for event damage but are confident we will not have to claim it,” Mehta told a media agency in an interview. The two companies previously worked together to demolish the Maradu complexes in Kochi, Kerala, in 2020, which were four residential buildings with 18 to 20 storeys.
A 2019 Supreme Court order secured the future of four high-rise buildings in Kerala’s Maradu: H20 Holy Faith, Alfa Serene, Jain Coral Cove, and Golden Kayaloram. Over 300 flats were demolished by implosion in less than five seconds on January 11 and 12, 2020.
The named complexes were discovered to be in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), which allowed construction only beyond 200 metres of the high tide line. The top court then ordered the demolition of the Maradu buildings due to violations of environmental regulations.
A few residents of Kerala’s Maradu Municipality have issued a warning to those living in the vicinity of two high-rise structures in Noida that will be demolished on Sunday: “Secure legal assurances from the authorities before demolition to ensure the safety of your buildings.”

Tomorrow, one of India’s tallest structures will vanish from the cityscape. More than 5,000 people will be evicted from the Emerald Court and ATS Village societies and over 2,500 vehicles will be removed. While the twin towers were built on the grounds of Emerald Court, ATS Village is located on the other side of the city in Sector 93A.
