Days after the hooch tragedy in Bihar’s Chhapra which claimed over 50 lives, at least 5 persons perished in the state’s neighbouring Siwan district after reportedly imbibing counterfeit whiskey.

All five victims were citizens of Bhagwanpur Police Station’s Brahsthan and Sondhani villages. The death toll is anticipated to grow, according to sources. Angry family members of the deceased protested by blocking the Siwan-Chapra Malmalia major route.

Siwan and Chhapra are around 10 kilometres apart.

Mahesh Rai (40), Sambhu Yadav (36), Amir Manjhi (45), and Awadh Manjhi (36) were all from Brahmasthan Village, while Ramendra Pandit was from Sondhani Village. According to residents, the death toll is anticipated to rise, and the health of other victims is said to be critical.

The bodies of the deceased are being taken to Siwan’s Sadar Hospital. A big police posse led by the Police Circle Inspector arrived at the Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, authorities jumped into action in the Begusarai district after one individual apparently died after ingesting booze.
