Rajasthan Polls: Congress Reveals 33 Candidates, CM Gehlot and Pilot Included

BJP has nominated Jhotwara MP Rajyavardhan Rathore and Vidhyadhar Nagar MP Diya Kumari for the upcoming elections.

The Congress party has revealed its initial list of 33 candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections. Among the notable candidates, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is set to contest from the Sardarpura Constituency, while Sachin Pilot has been nominated for the Tonk constituency. Govind Singh Dotasra, President of the Rajasthan Congress Committee, will compete from Laxmangarh. Additionally, CP Joshi, a senior party leader and the Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly, will vie for the Nathdwara seat. Other contenders include Divya Maderna for the Osian seat, and current minister Ashok Chandna for Hindoli. Rajasthan’s Minister of Child Empowerment, Mamta Bhupesh, is slated to contest from the Sikrai-SC seat.

Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its second list of 83 candidates, following an initial list of 41 contenders for the elections. This list includes former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who will run in Jhalarpatan, as well as senior BJP leader Rajendra Rathore, competing in Taranagar. The candidate selections were confirmed at a meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) chaired by BJP President JP Nadda on October 1.

The BJP has also nominated Rajyavardhan Rathore, an MP from Jhotwara, and MP Diya Kumari, who will compete from Vidhyadhar Nagar. Other candidates include Baba Balaknath for Tijara and Kirodi Lal Meena for Sawai Madhopur.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress secured 99 seats, while the BJP won 73 out of the 200-member house. Ashok Gehlot assumed power with the support of BSP MLAs and independent members.

Elections are scheduled in Mizoram on November 7, Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25, and Telangana on November 30. Vote counting will occur on December 3 in all the states, with Chhattisgarh’s polling being conducted in two phases.
