France after a victory of 2-0 against Morocco in the semi-final of FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Al Bayt Stadium sets up a showdown with Argentina in the championship game.
Antoine Griezmann’s assist in the fifth minute allowed Kylian Mbappe to attempt a left-footed effort from the centre of the box, but it was blocked as a result of France’s aggressive opening.
In the fifth minute of the game, Theo Hernandez’s left-footed drive from the left side of the six-yard box into the bottom left corner gave the 2018 champions a 1-0 lead.
With Noussair Mazraoui’s support, Azzedine Ounahi’s right-footed shot from outside the box was saved in the bottom right corner, putting Morocco not too far behind.
Kylian Mbappe was flagged for being offside as Antoine Griezmann attempted a through ball in the 11th minute.
Achraf Hakimi’s right-footed attempt from outside the box in the 17th minute was stopped thanks to a helper from Selim Amallah. Ten minutes later, Moroccan Sofiane Boufal was given a warning for a serious foul.
Morocco’s Sofiane Boufal attempted a through the pass in the 31st minute, but Noussair Mazraoui was flagged for offside.
Aurelien Tchouameni of France’s right-footed attempt from beyond the box was stopped two minutes after Kylian Mbappe’s assist.
The reigning champions France made multiple tries, but they were only able to increase their lead by one goal at the half.
France continued to come out strong in the second half, as seen in the 47th minute when Jules Kounde’s right-footed drive from beyond the box was blocked thanks to a Kylian Mbappe pass.
Yahya Attiat-Allah of Morocco attempted twice, the first coming in the 53rd minute when he came up with a right-footed effort from the centre of the box but missed to the right. Sofyan Amrabat attempted a right-footed effort from outside the box in the next minute, but it went wide to the left.
Kylian Mbappe was called offside as Olivier Giroud attempted a through ball in the 60th minute. Jules Kounde attempted a through pass nine minutes later, but Kylian Mbappe was once more caught offside.
The reigning champions were rewarded in the 79th minute when Frenchman Randal Kolo Muani sent a right-footed drive from close range into the bottom right corner.
Morocco exerted strong pressure in stoppage time but was unsuccessful, as France easily defeated Morocco 2-0 to advance to the second semi-final. The final will now pit France against Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
France only had 39% of the ball compared to Morocco’s 61%, but both sides had the same amount of shots that were on target—three apiece.
