AAP Admits Assault Against Swati Maliwal; Kejriwal To Take Action Against Personal Assistant

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in a recent development, has acknowledged allegations of assault against Swati Maliwal, the former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women. Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh announced on Tuesday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will take action against Bibhav Kumar, a close aide, in response to the incident.

The decision comes on the heels of accusations made by Swati Maliwal, now a Rajya Sabha MP, who claimed that she was assaulted by Bibhav Kumar at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in Delhi.

Responding to Maliwal’s allegations, Sanjay Singh confirmed that Bibhav Kumar had indeed assaulted and misbehaved with the former DCW chief while she was waiting for Kejriwal at his residence in Civil Lines, Delhi.

“She was waiting in the drawing waiting for Kejriwal. Bibhav Kumar reached the place and misbehaved with her. The Chief Minister has taken cognizance of the matter and will take strict action,” stated AAP leader Sanjay Singh in an official statement.

Swati Maliwal recounted the incident on Monday, alleging that Bibhav Kumar, a member of Kejriwal’s personal staff, attacked and assaulted her at the CM’s residence. She subsequently made two PCR calls to the Delhi Police and later visited the Civil Lines Police Station to report the incident.

Responding to the PCR calls, DCP (North) Manoj Meena stated, “We received a PCR call at 9:34 AM wherein the caller said that she has been assaulted inside the CM residence. Accordingly, local police & SHO responded to the call. After some time, MP Swati Maliwal came to the police station Civil Lines. No complaint was given by her. In this matter, no complaint has been received till now.”

Bibhav Kumar, who has recently been under scrutiny, faced termination from the Delhi vigilance department in April due to an “illegal appointment” as Kejriwal’s personal secretary. His dismissal was related to a 2007 case of assault and obstruction of a public servant from performing duties. Additionally, in February, he was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.
