On this day, February 14th, a day when the world was enveloped in the warmth of love, the skies suddenly darkened as 40 brave army jawans lost their lives in a terror attack in Pulwama. On this day in 2019, a suicide bomber attacked a convoy consisting of 78 vehicles transporting over 2,500 soldiers along the Jammu Srinagar National Highway.

Today marking its 5th anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays homage to the brave heroes. He said, “I pay homage to the brave heroes who were martyred in Pulwama. Their service and sacrifice for our nation will always be remembered.”

This act of terror deeply rattled the nation to its core, serving as a poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifices made by our soldiers. It was the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) who claimed the responsibility of the terror attack.

The assault inflicted a significant strain on India–Pakistan relations, leading to the 2019 India–Pakistan military standoff. Following this, Indian investigations pinpointed 19 individuals as suspects. By August 2021, the primary suspect and six accomplices had been eliminated, while seven others had been apprehended.

The nation today remembers the martyrs of Pulwama with several celebrities paying tribute.
