Prime Minister and Foreign Minister visited this area on Friday, and the Sukkur district police claimed to have filed FIRs on terrorism charges against over 100 unnamed individuals for allegedly attacking police officers, attacking vehicles with stones, causing damage to both public and private property, and inciting flood victims outside a relief camp.
While the demonstrators sought to meet with Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the flood-affected families in the district say that the police falsely filed FIRs against them.
The protesters, according to the families, wanted to meet with the prime minister and foreign minister of Pakistan to inform them that they had not been given access to supplies such as food, tents, mosquito nets, mattresses, and other necessities despite the country’s continued catastrophic flooding.
To examine the flood situation and meet with affected people in relief camps, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and other officials travelled to the Sukkur area in Sindh.
As per media reports, rain-affected families from various locations stopped certain highways during his visit to a camp put up near BA College to protest the administration’s refusal to clear off stagnant waters.
According to a police spokeswoman, several rioters, including women, blocked the main road while authorities were performing their duties outside the camp, disrupting law and order and inciting the families who had been harmed by the flood against the officials.
According to him, “the rioters also broke car windshields, which caused traffic flow to be interrupted for eight hours.”
Spokesman stated, “We have filed a complaint under the Anti-Terrorism Act against the miscreants,” adding that action will be taken against them in accordance with the law as soon as they were recognised in CCTV footage and other films showing them upsetting law and order.
Dawn stated that he issued a warning that nobody will be permitted to impose their own laws and cause unrest at this important moment.
Notably, since June, many more people have been injured or forced to flee their homes in Pakistan, where the dead toll from floods has surpassed 1,000.
Since June 14, the rains and floods have caused at least 1,033 fatalities and 1,527 injuries, according to Geo News, citing the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
In the previous day, 71 individuals were hurt while around 119 people perished.
According to the report, 76 people perished in Sindh, 31 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, six in Gilgit Baltistan, and four in Balochistan.
