Chargé D’Affaires Patricia A. Lacina at the U.S. Department of Commerce Education Trade Mission’s U.S. Study Abroad Fair stated “I’d like to thank all the U.S. university representatives who have joined our trade mission and are here today to help students make what could be one of the most crucial decisions of their lives: how and where to pursue their higher studies.”
she further stated “One of the best aspects of my employment in India is the chance it affords me to interact with amazing people from all walks of life across the entire nation. This includes the current leaders of the government, business, or society as well as the future leaders who will guide India’s course, including the students who are present with us this evening.”
The Chargé D’Affaires even reiterated about “International education is the best method to expand one’s horizons, have new adventures, and learn new skills. And the United States of America is the best country in which to achieve educational objectives. There is a great fit for every student because of the diversity and inclusivity on exhibit here today, which are typical of campuses throughout the United States. Indian and American students can both learn a lot from one another. Additionally, the relationships established while studying in the US will strengthen the ties between the two nations.”
She even stated that the US and herself have a firm belief in the ability of education to change lives. As a result, the U.S. Mission in India is making every effort to assist as many Indian students as possible in realising their aspirations to pursue a degree in the United States.
The American Embassy in India issued a record-breaking 82,000 student visas this summer. After earlier delays brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, it represents a remarkable recovery.
This number also illustrates how important education is in the United States. To make sure that qualifying students could arrive in the United States in time to complete their higher studies, processing student visas were given first priority by our embassy in New Delhi and our consulates in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai.
She further stated that “We also worked with higher education institutions to maintain an open and welcoming environment for overseas students, even throughout the pandemic. Schools have implemented a wide range of safety precautions to welcome international students. They are more adaptable to allow for hybrid, online, and in-person learning methods. Schools have also continued to offer a wide variety of options for students from abroad.”
“Furthermore, it is obvious that our efforts are paying off. I’m delighted to report that more Indian students than students from any other nation are currently studying in the United States. Nearly 20% of all overseas students in the United States are Indian, and this percentage is expected to climb over the next several years,” she said.
She was inspired by the numbers, and a thriving, educated workforce will benefit both the economies on the economic front. More jobs and opportunities will be created for both countries. This will boost safety and prosperity in both nations and encourage both India and the United States to take on more responsibility on the international scene.
Additionally, Indian students significantly contribute to the social fabric of both India and the United States. They forge enduring bonds with their American coworkers, friends, and classmates. Many of these kinship links develop into global alliances.
